Nashville, TN Athletic Injury Safety Tips For All Athletes

by Jamie Cudjoe

If you practice any sort of real physical activity, any sports, be it karate, boxing, weight lifting or just some baseball or bowling with your buddies now and then, do yourself two favors: First, put the number of a Nashville chiropractor in your address book. Second, take care of yourself so that you only have to call the chiropractor now and then!

Here are a few athletic injury safety tips to keep you on the field and out of the chiropractic clinic.

Stretch

Never do anything without stretching. If you practice karate at a real, old school dojo, you’ll notice that almost half of each class is devoted to stretching and warm up. This is because karate is all about improving the body’s health and well being. It’s been being refined for hundreds of years to be good for every last inch of your body. The more you stretch, the longer you spend warming up, the less likely you are to sustain any real injury.

Water, Water, Water

You’ve got to stay hydrated to avoid cramps and injury. Think of water as… Motor oil for the athlete’s body. Sports drinks are okay, but only BECAUSE they’re mainly made up of water. Drink more water and make sure to stretch, and you should be able to keep your body in great shape with fewer injuries.

Pace Yourself as You Push Yourself

Pushing yourself is a requisite, yes, but pace yourself as you go. For example, going from white belt to black belt in karate takes years. Nobody does it in a day’s time, so don’t think that you can run a twelve minute mile one day and a four minute mile the next. It simply doesn’t work like that, that’s not how our bodies are built. You’ve got to know your limitations and, while you can dance around them, while you can push them a little here and there, you can’t destroy your limitations in a week’s time unless you want to wind up in the Nashville chiropractor office on a weekly basis.
