<p>Hi, I&#8217;m your chiropractor, and your back called me the other day complaining about all those household chores you are doing. I know you wish I could tell you just to hire a housekeeper and bill it to your insurance company, but I guess it won&#8217;t work that way. Instead I have some helpful tips for ways to work around the house and protect your back.</p>
<p>At the counter: Washing dishes, chopping vegetables, even brushing your teeth&#8211; all hazardous! Scared? It&#8217;s just the counter height, it is likely not the perfect fit for your body. It should be belt level. Bend your elbows and shrug, it should reach the bottom.  So either re-do your kitchen, buy some platform shoes, OR you can relieve some of that pressure by raising one leg. Not like a dog, but propped up, knee bent, on a stool. Or open a cabinet door and use the ledge to prop your leg.</p>
<p>Vacuuming: The upright vacuum, it&#8217;s the enemy to your back. Most people push and pull violently. This rotates your spine with your arm outstretched. This position exposes you lower back to an acute flareup. Instead focus on your arms doing the moving, and your back NOT twisting. Slow down if you have to.</p>
<p>Bathtub: Take off your shoes and climb inside the tub instead of leaning over it. Squat some if you can.</p>
<p>Ceiling work: When painting or cleaning a ceiling fan, you are reaching above your head with your arms outstretched. This arches your back causing increased pressure. Use a tall enough ladder to minimize arm raising and stretching and arching.</p>
<p>Laundry basket: Don&#8217;t carry it down the stairs, you cannot see around it and you could fall! I sound like an overprotective grandmother, but you would not believe how many people fall down this way. Further, you are reaching out again around the basket, and by now I think I have your convinced that outstretched arms are a strain to the spine.  Put your clothes in a laundry bag and roll them down the stairs.</p>
<p>How to lift: Nope, I&#8217;m not going to say squat. That moves your center of gravity forward, stretching out, straining the back. The healthy way to lift is to actually kneel down, with one knee on the floor and one bent, then raise up strongly.</p>
<p>Just a few adjustments to avoid those chiropractic adjustments.</p>

<p>The art of yoga is a rather tough subject to discuss today. Globalization seems to have a devastating impact on this ancient concept. To facilitate people&#8217;s understanding, the mysteries of yoga and all its intricacies have been simplified into the modern day version of yoga practice.</p>
<p>Westerners may find the contents to be complex and not easily understood. In order to be viewed as a person of wisdom, some people who have been exposed to this ancient art have invested their time to learn a little more, only to gain a superficial understanding of the real essence of yoga and then proceed to talk about it as though they are the recognized experts. Unfortunately, the western world seems to place the physical aspects of yoga as the main focus. There is more to yoga than the mere attainment of inner balance and serenity.</p>
<p>It has its origins in the Hindu religion and is a physical manifestation representing one of the six schools of Hindu thought. In India, yoga is considered a very spiritual experience that has a physical aspect to it. Viewing yoga as a physical activity is definitely a mistake. Most westerners are aware of the strange symbols associated with yoga practice, but often they are misunderstood.</p>
<p>Ironically, it is practiced as a popular form of sports. Additionally, people who desire inner tranquility would often find this practice to be beneficial. Nevertheless many have been attracted to yoga as a form of practice to achieve inner peace and balance.</p>
<p>People are fascinated by the claims made by the yoga masters who often come with these promises Outside of India, that there is a high level of misunderstanding of its true nature, hence the monumental amount of mistakes that can be found in its implementation. The culture and structure of each different group influenced how yoga is being practiced.</p>
<p>The western busy lifestyles certainly do not provide much space to contemplate on this philosophy. While meditation is an integral part of the practice, the westerners with their ever busy lifestyles certainly do not posses time for such luxuries. Westerners have different goals and priorities, and the insatiable desire to accumulate massive amounts of wealth certainly has no place in the system of values among the Hindus. True wisdom, as defined by the parameters of the Hindu religion would be an impossible feat to achieve when this paradigm is adopted.</p>
<p>It takes patience and time to experience a successful meditative session. This is what the westerners lack. The west seems cursed with the obsession to pursue the goal of building better lives in the form of lavish lifestyles and not in the philosophical way.</p>
<p>Here, yoga as been practiced by those who desire to look good and stay in style. There is a lot of information going out promoting yoga as a form of sports. In fact you can grab any of those and start practicing yoga anywhere you want to. During the early years of yoga practice in the US, a lot of yoga &#8220;gurus&#8221; have emerged, claiming to be experts of this discipline. Yet they gradually dwindled into what they actually are, merely fake gurus and yet they still have real support from their disciples. Obedient disciples of this distorted form of yoga have become agents of growth of this unhealthy philosophy.</p>
