How To Light Your Cigar Using A Cigar Lighter

Saturday, June 12th, 2010
by Brian Mallikarjunan

Are you new to the world of cigar smoking? If so, then you likely have several questions concerning the use of a cigar lighter to get that smoke lit. Of course, actually getting the cigar to light is pretty important, but you will find that there is more to consider here than just the method of applying the flame to tobacco. You will need patience, knowledge and the right set of tools. Butane torch lighters and guillotine cutters are the best options for the novice cigar smoker and will help to ensure that you have the simplest, most enjoyable smoke possible.

The first thing you need to do is to remove about 1/8th of an inch from the cap of the cigar. To do this, place the cutter on the shoulder of the cap and cut. You will find that this really only applies to guillotine cutters, though, as the process is different with scissors or a punch. When the cap has been cut, you can start the actual lighting process. However, don’t touch that flame to the cigar just yet. You need to warm it up first.

Most smokers refer to this process as toasting and you are basically just warming the end of the cigar that will be lit. Hold the lit lighter in front of and slightly below the end of the cigar. Allow the tobacco to warm up and you can get the rest of the process underway.

Keep turning the cigar throughout the lighting process. When the entire cigar has caught, inspect the end for any area that did not light properly. You may need to reapply the flame at this point. You can also breathe on the area to help it catch and stay lit.

Once you have ensured that the entire foot of the cigar is burning evenly, you can sit back and enjoy it. Of course, you might find that your cigar burns unevenly, in which case, you can simply hold the lighter directly in front of the slow burning area and warm it. This will help it light and catch up with the rest of the cigar, ensuring a smooth, enjoyable smoking experience.

Traditional Vs. Infrared Saunas

Saturday, June 12th, 2010
by Bruce Lipsky, MS

Are you thinking about buying a home sauna? There are several companies selling home saunas, with nearly endless choices. You could depend on the opinion of a friend or colleague for your choice but with the diverse and ever changing technology within the marketplace, how do you know if you are arriving at the right decision?

Many Types of Saunas with So Many Differences! Essentially, we can divide home saunas into two main classes: the traditional style that features a heating element with “hot lava rocks” and the “newer” type which features infrared technology. Traditional (old) style saunas are adequate for shorter sessions but unfortunately, the traditional sauna lacks many of the health and wellness benefits that one could receive from using an infrared sauna.

A disadvantage that traditional saunas present is that their temperatures must reach upper heat levels (150-180 degrees) in order for the body to actually start sweating. This temperature is way too high to safely manage, for any extended period of time, especially if a person has heart disease or high blood pressure. Medical professionals agree that anything longer than twenty minutes at those high temperatures could have a negative effect upon your health. In fact, it could actually be putting excessive strain on your heart as your body attempts to counter the effects of the high heat.

Infrared saunas have a totally unique way of “heating up the body”. The heat rendered from infrared saunas permeates the body much deeper (up to 1 3/4 inches compared to the traditional sauna, which only penetrates approximately 1/8 of an inch). Because of this greater heat permeation, your body can create a healthful detoxifying sweat at a much lower sauna temperature–about 120 degrees. Thus, with lower heat, you have greater safety and tremendous added health benefits.

Many physicians are starting to add infrared sauna therapy into their patient’s treatment regimens. These include those with inflammatory disease, necessitated weight loss, cholesterol control, and blood pressure control! An additional impressive advantage of infrared therapy is that the deep penetrating heat also allows for a detoxifying effect on the body. The infrared heat helps the body by releasing toxins way below the skin and exfoliating them through the skin. Since we are exposed on a daily basis to several toxins, infrared therapy can help with the release of these toxins, strengthening our immune system and improving our health and well being.

Are All Infrared Saunas Alike? There are essentially two types of infrared saunas that are currently in the market place today. The differences are based upon by the type of heaters used-ceramic vs. carbon based. In the past, ceramic heaters were the industry standard, but as the technology evolved, carbon based heaters were introduced and now are the industry’s gold standard for infrared sauna therapy.

Ceramic based heaters in infrared saunas are less effective than carbon based heaters. This is because the ceramic rods can only make a limited amount of heat and must work at very high temperatures. This produces a spotty dispersion of the heat, creating “hot spots” (which could burn the user!) and “cold spots”, where there is no heat at all!

Carbon based technology produces an even and uniform heat throughout the sauna, therefore there is no uneven distribution of heat that you get with ceramic heaters. In comparing, a typical two person ceramic infrared sauna, the rods produce approximately 56 square inches of infrared heat, whereas the carbon based infrared saunas produce approximately 572 square inches of heat, in the same size sauna! The research concludes that the whole body should be surrounded by the infrared heat to have the greatest opportunity to absorb as many rays as possible in order to optimize the health benefits of the therapy.

Is An Infrared Sauna Safe? As stated above, the medical profession has recognized and attested the numerous benefits of infrared saunas. Infrared therapy and treatment includes: detoxification of the body, weight loss and burning extra calories, blood pressure control, pain easement, diminishing inflammation, alleviating fibromyalgia symptoms and improvements in overall health and well being.

Where Can I Purchase A Carbon Based Infrared Sauna? There are several company’s specializing in carbon based infrared sauna technology. I suggest that you look for the established companies that are Better Business Bureau accredited and ETL certified and have Carbon Wave 360 Technology. This combination will ensure a safe and high quality purchase.

Tips On Getting An Upgrade With Airline Tickets

Monday, June 7th, 2010
by Adriana Noton

It is always a great feeling to suddenly be offered a seat upgrade when you are about to board a flight. However, a bump up to a better seat can be rare if you are not a member of some time airline loyalty program or special membership. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to increase the chances of getting a seat upgrade. Passengers just have to be aware what they can do to put themselves in a position to get a seat upgrade. Below are a number of tips on getting an upgrade with airline tickets:

1. When attempting to get a flight seat upgrade, good timing is essential. It is important to know the best times to get an upgrade. For instance, airlines will normally permit double-booking of a few seats for passengers who fail to show up for their flight. When the majority of passengers show up for their booked flight, there is an increased likelihood of some passengers getting bumped up to a better seat. As well, passengers who are bringing carry-on bags who arrive late have an increased chance of getting a seat upgrade. However, it is important to be aware that there may be a chance that you will get bumped from the flight.

2. Passengers who purchased the most expensive economy tickets will normally get the first chance of being upgraded to a better seat. You can increase your chances of getting an upgrade by purchasing the highest price economy tickets and traveling at unpopular flight times such as holidays.

3. Dressing neatly and professionally will increase the chances of getting a seat upgrade. This is because higher class seating normally has well dressed passengers and airlines tend to want to make sure upgraded passengers are dressed appropriately. As well, be polite and courteous with the airline staff. Being friendly with the staff will be helpful in getting a seat upgrade. You should also make seat upgrade requests as you make your way to boarding the flight.

4. Consider volunteering if an airline agent asks for someone to take another flight because of overbooking. There is a chance you may receive a seat upgrade for volunteering. You could also tell a little lie such as you are on a honeymoon to get some sympathy which might result in a seat upgrade. As well, consider becoming a member of the particular airline’s frequent flier club. It may help you get a seat upgrade. If you have been seriously ‘put out’ on a prior flight, you should let the airline agents know as you may get some sympathy, and you may possibly get a seat upgrade. However, do not cause a big scene as you will likely get rejected from the flight.

We all want to have the most comfortable flight possible so it is always exciting to get a seat upgrade. Not only will you get a more comfortable seat, but you will get extra amenities such as premium wine and delicious food. If you know what you can do to get a seat upgrade and take the steps to do so, it will greatly increase the chances of getting a seat upgrade.

The Art Of Yoga And It’s Amazing Health Benefits

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010
by Wendy Brausch

The art of yoga is a rather tough subject to discuss today. Globalization seems to have a devastating impact on this ancient concept. To facilitate people’s understanding, the mysteries of yoga and all its intricacies have been simplified into the modern day version of yoga practice.

Western civilization may find its contents to be mystical and complex, thus finds it hard to understand. To be on the safe side, it is good to gain a thorough understanding of a particular subject before you begin to speak of it from an expert’s viewpoint. Yoga is mainly perceived as a physical activity in the western part of the world. The rich philosophies behind yoga practice have been reduced into a simple form of art that focuses merely on achieving inner balance and peace.

It is one of the six schools of Hindu thoughts has roots deep within the pages of the Hindu Holy Scriptures. Indians understand that is not a mere physical activity, but yoga is part of a spiritual development that is realized through a systematic and disciplined physical approach. It is unfortunate that the western world would approach yoga as a mere physical activity. Yoga with its strange looking symbols may seem mystical to the average Joe, is often enough to perk up a considerable level of interest in the hidden aspects of this ancient practice, but sadly, they are often misunderstood.

This discipline is practiced as a popular sport. Additionally, people who desire inner tranquility would often find this practice to be beneficial. The allure of yoga as an effective way to gain inner peace and balance has beckoned many to embrace this activity as well.

People are fascinated by the claims made by the yoga masters who often come with these promises Outside of India, that there is a high level of misunderstanding of its true nature, hence the monumental amount of mistakes that can be found in its implementation. The culture and structure of each different group influenced how yoga is being practiced.

The fast paced lifestyle of the western civilization left no chance for them to indulge in quiet, introspective moments to really understand this concept. Sometimes, the most important part of this practice is neglected, for instance the essential meditation. The Hindus have a different set of value system that is very different from the west, and places low importance in the mere accumulation of physical wealth. Unless these values are changed, it is impossible for westerners to achieve the true wisdom and enlightenment as defined by the parameters of the Hindu religion.

It takes patience and time to experience a successful meditative session. This is what the westerners lack. The west seems cursed with the obsession to pursue the goal of building better lives in the form of lavish lifestyles and not in the philosophical way.

Here, yoga as been practiced by those who desire to look good and stay in style. There is a lot of information going out promoting yoga as a form of sports. In fact you can grab any of those and start practicing yoga anywhere you want to. During the early years of yoga practice in the US, a lot of yoga “gurus” have emerged, claiming to be experts of this discipline. Yet they gradually dwindled into what they actually are, merely fake gurus and yet they still have real support from their disciples. Obedient disciples of this distorted form of yoga have become agents of growth of this unhealthy philosophy.

Why Purchase A Dual Flame Lighter?

Monday, May 31st, 2010
by Brian Mallikarjunan

In your quest for the perfect smoke, you’ve likely encountered the problem posed by many cigar lighters. Standard lighters, with just a traditional flame, might not offer enough coverage to ensure your cigar is fully lit. As you know, it is imperative that your cigar be fully lit (and lit in the correct manner), in order to avoid partial burns, runs, uneven burns and other problems. Therefore, you should understand the benefits offered by dual flame lighters.

What are these types of lighter? Dual flame models offer dual flame ports, but they come in more than one configuration. Of course, not every configuration is right for every smoker. It will take a bit of understanding to find the right option for your needs. What choices do you have on the market? Here’s a rundown on what is offered by the two types of dual flame lighter.

The most common type of dual flame lighter has two jet ports at the top of the lighter. These are ideal solutions for cigar smokers, as dual ports help to ensure that you enjoy an even light every time. No matter how large those stogies might be, dual jet ports can help provide a clean light, and help you avoid problems like uneven burns or runs caused by other types of lighters or improper lighting procedures.

However, those who do not prefer cigars will find that this type of dual flame lighter is not the right choice for them. Instead, you will find dual flame lighters that incorporate a single jet port with a traditional flame, as well. The traditional flame might be set on top of the lighter, but is often located on the side, at a 90-degree angle. The jet port is located on top of the lighter.

When determining which type of dual flame lighter is right for your needs, you should certainly take stock of your smoking preferences. If you smoke cigars primarily, prefer a pipe, or enjoy cigarettes with the occasional pipe or cigar thrown into the mix, the right lighter will make a world of difference. In addition, it’s important that you find the perfect lighter for you; this might not be the same lighter for someone else, even someone else with the same smoking habits. Take your time, investigate your options and make an informed decision and you will be happier with the results.

How To Do Ultra Deep Meditation

Sunday, May 30th, 2010
by Trevor Johnson

Meditation is an extremely powerful yet simple way to relax your mind and body and cultivate a peaceful state of being. However, as well as standard meditation, it is possible to achieve ultra deep meditation states.

The purpose of this article is to give you a method that you can use to help you go into an ultra deep meditation state. The main technique I am going to be discussing is mantra meditation. I will also talk about using binaural beats to attain deep meditative states.

Mantra meditation involves repeating a word or sound over and over again silently in your mind. This keeps the mind busy with an extremely simple and repetitive task, allowing the rest of the mind to fully relax. The mantra we are going to use is OM.

To begin, sit comfortably in a relatively upright manner in a peaceful room with subdued lighting. Breathe in deeply, and then as you take a long breath out say Ommmm in time with the out breath. Do this for a few minutes, keeping your breathing slow and deep.

After a while, as you begin to feel quite relaxed, allow your breathing to settle back down to its normal rate, and then slowly shut your eyes. In this relaxed state, allow the mind to carry on repeating the Ommmm mantra at whatever tempo or rhythm feels most natural.

The crucial part of this technique is not to force the mantra. There is no right or wrong way for you to repeat the mantra. It does not matter what tempo or rhythm the mantra is repeated at. If it is fast, then that is fine. If it is slow, then that is fine too. Just effortlessly allow the mantra to float around in your mind.

While meditating, if at any time you find your mind has drifted away from your mantra and is caught up in thoughts, do not let it worry you. All you do is gently guide your mind back towards your mantra in an effortless way. Also, if you find yourself feeling blissfully relaxed and peaceful, then feel free to let the mantra fade away, and just rest in that deeply relaxed state.

After about 10 to 20 minutes have gone past, let go of the mantra and then just relax with your eyes closed for a couple of minutes longer. Then gently open your eyes again.

In addition to the mantra meditation (or even instead of it), another way to do ultra deep meditation is to use binaural beats. This entails playing slightly different frequencies into each ear, and your brain hears the difference in frequency and then matches its own brainwave frequency to it. This can cause extremely deep states of mind.
